Step 1 of 4
What are you working toward?
The rule in brief
- Who needs ELDT?
- Anyone getting a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time, upgrading from Class B to Class A, or getting a school bus (S), passenger (P) or hazmat (H) endorsement for the first time.
- I got my CDL before February 7, 2022. Do I need ELDT?
- Not for the CDL class or endorsements you already held before that date. ELDT is not retroactive. You would need it for a new class or a first S, P or H endorsement.
- I got my CLP before February 7, 2022. Do I need ELDT?
- Not if you get your CDL before that CLP, or its renewal, expires. If it expires and you get a new CLP, ELDT applies.
- Does hazmat ELDT include behind-the-wheel training?
- No. Hazmat ELDT is theory only. Class A, Class B, passenger and school bus ELDT need both theory and behind-the-wheel training.
